Understanding The Government Obesity Statistics

Katherine Hobson, of the Wall street Journal recently wrote an article entitled, "Digging Into The Government Obesity Statistics."  In the article she begs the questions, "Are American getting fatter?"   Now if you've been paying attention to the news and and print publications you would be prone to answer yes.  You'd be compelled to say yes they are.

According to Ms. Hobson,  "you'd think that would be a fairly straightforward question."  However, according to a New England Journal of Medicine report, there seem to be conflicting reports from the CDC.  Apparently, the CDC has a set of reports with one data and another set of reports reporting a different statistical data.  Interestingly, one set of data seem to show that a certain segment of the American population gained an inch while dropping pounds.

There are a few other interesting information there including a government guide to measuring your BMI Body Mass Index. Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women. You can get the full story here.
